It is a rule in divinity, that grace takes not away nature; that is, grace comes not to take away a man’s affections, but to take them up.

“But perfect love casteth out fear.” (1 John 4:18)
…But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ | Luke 15

Luke 15:11-32. We know this story known as the prodigal son, but the story is really about the father. The story is about the son rejecting the Father and the father’s reaction.
Before we begin we’ve got to determine who this story is being given to. Luke 15:1-2 “And all thetax-collectors and sinners drew near to Him in order to hear Him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
Do we even know what prodigal means? ….spending money or resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant. Many think it means to return, but it’s the lifestyle we live.Luke 15:12 “And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that is coming to me. And he divided his living to them.”This was like saying “drop dead dad”. He wanted his share now and is rejecting his dad. Was a huge insult in the Jewish culture. Basically, he didn’t love his dad. Later in the story:
Luk 15:14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land. And he began to be in want. Luk 15:15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country. And he sent him into his fields to feed pigs. Luke 15:16 And he was longing to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, and no one gave to him.We see the son now wanting to come back to the Father, NOT BECAUSE HE LOVED HIM BUT BECAUSE HIS DAD WOULD GIVE HIM FOOD! IT WAS HIS STOMACH TALKING. He was sorry only because of his lack of food…not because of his love for his dad.
Luke 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father abound in loaves, and I perish with hunger! Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you.”Where does he say he missed his dad? Or longed for his company? Come on, he is going to use the relationship to get food, not to reconcile with his dad. So sad….. I can’t tell you how many times i have done this…SMH. #Withoutabandon
- Mat 9:20 Then a woman came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his clothes. She had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years….
Mat 9:21 She thought, “If I only touch his clothes, I’ll get well.”
Mat 9:22 When Jesus turned and saw her he said, “Cheer up, daughter! Your faith has made you well.” At that very moment the woman became well.
Remember that when women are mentioned in scripture it is referring to Israel or the church. Taking that we see that the church has been bleeding for years. Bleeding does not produce any seed, seed that God can use to multiply his goodness and grace. It was impossible for her to be well and whole. This reflects on the church today in that it is relying on programs and motivational teaching instead of teaching the reality of God’s grace and forgiveness. It has no seed!
Isa 64:6 But we are all as the unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as a menstruation cloth. And we all fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
This is the OT going into the NT. The woman was unclean as is the church…until Jesus is brought in! She would have been declared unclean by the priests (ministry of condemnation) and everyone around her would have known her problem. She could not trust in her own righteousness to make herself well and neither can the church. The church is weak today because it is leaving Jesus out of it. It must reach out to touch the robe….
How did she get well? She touched the robe, a sign of righteousness. We too cannot trust in our own righteousness, we must trust in the “robe” of Christ. It is only through HIS righteousness that we are made whole, everlasting, complete.
Oh yeah, as a side note, the number 12 means everyone! She had the issue for 12 years….so, thechurch/everyone, is bleeding and needs Jesus’ righteousness!

Clean?
Do you know anyone who cleans themselves before they take a bath? Ridiculous, right? Yet, people sometimes avoid going to Jesus because they feel that they need to get themselves “cleaned” first. “Let me get rid of these habits and thoughts, then I can go to church.” Crazy? Guys…think about this for a moment…we’ve probably been taught this ourselves!
Jesus is the bath, we cannot be clean before we come to Jesus…. He cleans us, we can’t clean oursselves…and that’s the problem that we see everywhere. It’s like there are two sets of standards in the church: one for those unsaved and another for those that are saved. Many people think they need to get right before come to church and as a result they never come. We have to acknowledge we can’t make ourselves right. Come to the bath and the bath will make you clean. Come just as you are, saved or unsaved, and Jesus will wash you clean of all guilt and condemnation.
